Sector Report – Education

Leonardo Sanches | 16 set 2026 | 2 minutos de leitura

Brazil has one of the world’s largest and most diversified education systems, serving 46.0 million K-12 students and 10.2 million higher education students, but the market’s structure is changing fast.

Private participation is only ~20% of K-12 enrollments versus ~80% in higher education, creating very different market dynamics. A declining fertility rate is a structural headwind for K-12, yet private enrollments have kept growing as premium and bilingual schools gain relevance and leading consolidators build scale through multi-brand portfolios.

In higher education, distance learning has surpassed on-campus enrollment and is now the sector’s main growth source, while new regulation is raising operating standards and restricting fully remote delivery. Enrollment growth alone no longer drives value creation – retention and pricing discipline have become critical as government financing participation falls sharply.

Capital is concentrating in scarce assets such as premium K-12, bilingual platforms and medical education. M&A remains an important growth lever, and listed Brazilian education players trade at ~5.3x median LTM EV/EBITDA after significant multiple compression since 2022.

Brasilpar’s Education Sector in Brazil report examines the market’s scale and demographic drivers, basic and higher education dynamics, key sector trends, valuation benchmarks, recent M&A activity, and identifies the strategic opportunities likely to shape the next phase of industry development.
